Try 14 days freeI think we just see each other, not, you're younger generation, I'm older generation. I just feel like it's like two souls meeting together, have a very meaningful heart-to-heart dialogue. To celebrate and honor Asian Pacific Islander Month- Headspace invited three pairs of- Intergenerational family members to sit down- And have an open conversation on- Identity, mental health, And support within our families and communities. (gentle rhythmic music) Scene 2A, take one. Common mark. (slate claps) Hi, I'm Chilin Chang. This is Emily Lou. I've known her since she was in third grade with my daughter. Hi, my name is Chris Greenwood. This is my wonderful daughter, Nikole, and I've known her since I was 18 years old. Hi, my name is Keiko Coe, and this is my daughter, Chelsea Coe. I've known her all her life. (both laughing) (gentle atmospheric music) My teenage years, we fought a lot. You always said, "Mom, you grew up in Japan. It's totally different from, culturally, so you don't understand." But I see you. "I see myself in you," I should say. I think it's amazing how close we are now, and- I know. If I were to tell myself in my teenage years, (Keiko laughs) "You'd enjoy hanging out with your mom", I'd be like, "There's no way." (laughs) I think growing up, I went through, similarly, what a lot of kids of divorced parents went through, was just going back and forth. And what made our relationship so special was during all of that, you never once talked to me like I was a kid. Like, it was always making sure that I was fully aware of the situation and understanding what was happening. And the fact that you would stress so often that you were talking to me like an adult because I was going to be one. I know for me, you know, you changed my life, 'cause I was only 18 years old. And when you came around, I had a choice to make. Was I gonna be an absent father or was I gonna be responsible for my actions? And it was the best choice I've made, ever. So one day I ran into you at the park. I just remember I was so surprised that conversation just flow and flow. And it's so amazing that as a young lady that you were interested talking to an, a woman that is your mom's age. I found that very rewarding. (gentle clicking music) (pulsing electronic music) I wanna thank you for giving me the freedom to be me and to push you to question some of the things that I was afraid of, and to thank you for always, even when I was a kid, telling me, like, "Is there anything you wanna say?" 'Cause that's something I still think about now. As your dad, it's always been just a wonder just watching you grow up, you know, and seeing you grow into the person that you are. You always loved...
