Try 14 days freeHello, how's it going? My name is Ali Abdaal and I'm a doctor turned entrepreneur and I'm also a YouTuber and also the author of this book, "Feel-Good Productivity". And I'd love to introduce you to this Feel-Good Productivity collection here on Headspace. (bright music) Now, this is a topic that's very close to my heart, and I know that you're gonna get a lot of value from the amazing content we've got in this collection. The reason I love productivity so much is because productivity has changed my life by learning the principles and strategies around productivity, I was able to get through med school in a pretty efficient and effective way, and that meant that alongside medical school, I was able to maintain a social life and also build a business on the side, and then started a YouTube channel. And it was really all because of the principles of productivity and time management, and more importantly, energy management that really helped with all of that stuff. But the reason this is the Feel-Good Productivity collection and not just the productivity collection is because I think a really important aspect of productivity is finding a way to make the process feel good. Because who wants to be super efficient and effective and get to a destination only to realize that you are actually miserable along the way? Yes, it's about achieving more, but it's about achieving more and doing more of what matters to us, but in a way that's intentional and actually healthy and actually sustainable for our physical health and also our mental health. Now, before we launch into the collection, I'd just like to share three principles with you, three Ps of Feel-Good Productivity. So those three Ps are play, power and people. There's gonna be more on these within the collection, but just briefly play is where you try your best to approach your work in the spirit of play with a sense of lightness and ease, not taking it too seriously, but in the words of the philosopher Alan Watts, treating it sincerely rather than seriously. If we can approach our work in the spirit of play in a way that actually makes it a little bit fun, we can be way more productive, but also have a way nicer and healthier time actually doing the work. Then we have power. Power is about feeling that sense of empowerment, feeling like you are powerful in the work that you're doing. And one very tangible way of doing that is to find a way to track your progress. Almost like in a video game, you know, you would, you would get the experience meter when you're leveling up and there's something really addictive that we as humans feel about the sensation of progress. So what I would recommend is that you ask yourself when it comes to your work, what is your equivalent of the video game experience meter level up bar? If you...
