Identify successful areas in your life, and ones that need more attention
The Wellness Wheel is a holistic tool to help you see which areas in your life are going well and which might need more attention. Identifying these areas can help you strengthen your sense of identity. The Wellness Wheel is divided into eight domains: Social, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, physical, environmental, financial, and occupational. Experts believe that in order to have optimal health and well-being, you should tend to all eight domains.
This activity will help you identify:
- What areas of your life are going well;
- What your primary wellness needs are;
- Areas of your life that you can work on with a mental health coach.

- Emotional Wellness
Coping effectively with life and creating satisfying relationships
- Spiritual Wellness
Expanding our sense of purpose and meaning in life
- Intellectual Wellness
Recognizing creative abilities and finding ways to expand knowledge and skills
- Physical Wellness
Recognizing the need for physical activity, diet, sleep, and nutrition
- Environmental Wellness
Good health by occupying pleasant, stimulating environments that support well-being
- Financial Wellness
Satisfaction with current and future financial situations
- Occupational Wellness
Personal satisfaction and enrichment derived from one’s work
- Social Wellness
Developing a sense of connection, belonging, and a well-developed support system
Looking at each area of wellness on the wheel, reflect on the following questions. You may want to jot down your responses on a piece of paper and discuss them with a mental health coach:
- Assign each area a number from 1 to 10 based on how well this area is going in your life, with 1 being the least successful and 10 being the most successful.
- What is going well in each area? Why did you assign the number you did?
- What would you like to improve in this area?
Choose 1 or 2 areas to focus on with a coach (or on your own). You don’t have to choose the areas that are least successful. Choose the ones you want to improve the most or the ones that will help strengthen your sense of identity.
